A Minecraft Movie has taken the crown for the top domestic opening for a video game adaptation, a title that was previously held by 2023’s Super Mario Bros. Movie.

The Super Marios Bros. did end its opening weekend with a higher box office, but that can also be attributed to the movie having two extra days during its opening weekend. While Minecraft performed better Friday-Sunday domestically, Mario Bros. did perform slightly better in the global market. Still, Minecraft is doing exceptionally well for the budget they have and so long as enthusiasm for the movie remains high it should have a strong hold on its second weekend. However, even with a steep drop off the movie should still have no problem making a profit at the box office.
