Why do we struggle to forgive when someone has deeply hurt us? In Luke 17, Jesus addresses the heart of human conflict and our call to radical forgiveness. He reminds us that while God is the ultimate judge and no sin will go unaccounted for, vengeance belongs to Him alone—not to us.

This doesn't minimize the pain we've experienced, but it frees us from the crushing burden of carrying bitterness that only destroys our own hearts. Jesus calls us to release that anger into God's capable hands and embrace the humility of a servant's heart, recognizing that our duty to love and serve others flows from our gratitude to a God who sacrificed everything for us on the cross. When we choose to act in forgiveness first—even when our emotions haven't caught up—we discover that our hearts begin to change, and what started as duty transforms into genuine love and freedom.
