My 25-year-old son called me recently from Trader Joe’s. He’s learning to cook for himself and had a question about “fortified” bread. He said, “It just says wheat, but what does fortified mean?”

So I had him read the ingredients…and there were 15 of them. A long list of synthetic vitamins and minerals added in. 😳

Most people look at that and think, "oh great, extra vitamins!" But the truth is, fortified foods can throw your body out of balance.

For example, do you actually need more iron? Most men don’t. But if your bread is fortified with iron, you're getting it whether your body needs it or not.

Fortified foods might seem helpful, but for many of us, they’re doing more harm than good. Our bodies need intentional nourishment, not random extras. 🙂
