Ideally, we’d get all our nutrients from food... A hundred years ago, that might have been more possible.
But today? Things are different. Our soil is depleted. Our bodies are out of balance. And a “shotgun approach” to nutrition, like fortified foods or daily multivitamins, isn’t the answer.
Most fortified foods use synthetic nutrients. Take folic acid, for example. It’s a synthetic form of folate (or folinic acid), the natural version our bodies actually need. Folic acid is pushed hard, especially for pregnancy and fertility, but it's not always well-absorbed and can even be harmful for some people.
Another example? Synthetic vitamin A. Many people are unknowingly dealing with vitamin A toxicity, and it’s often made worse by synthetic Vitamin A plus “superfoods” like liver, leafy greens, and egg yolks (especially when we overdo it).
Our family has shifted away from extremes. No more piling on superfoods or supplements “just in case.” We focus on sensible, whole-food meals. Protein, grains, vegetables... all prepared using traditional methods.
More isn’t always better. Especially if your body doesn't actually need it. 🙂
