Taking Eviction Paperwork to the Sheriff 🚔 — And Dealing with Delays 🏛️

Today, I’m taking eviction paperwork to the Sheriff’s Department — a crucial step to get a case in front of the magistrate.
This is how the process works in North Carolina:
📄 The paperwork (Summons) must be signed, dated, and stamped by the Clerk of Court before we can serve it.
📅 The Sheriff’s Department requires at least 7 days before the court date to post or serve the paperwork to the tenant.
⏳ But if the clerk is late in processing… then we’re automatically late delivering to the Sheriff — and that’s not even our fault.
In this case, the paperwork was delayed by the court clerk, which means more hoops to jump through. It’s frustrating, but a seasoned property manager knows how to navigate the system, file continuances if necessary, and keep the case moving for the plaintiff.
Whether it’s for non-payment of rent or lease violations, this is one of the most important steps in the eviction process — and one you have to get right.
