His vengeance against the Gods of Olympus years behind him, Kratos now lives as a man in the realm of Norse Gods and monsters. It is in this harsh, unforgiving world that he must fight to survive… and teach his son to do the same.

Kratos is a father again. As mentor and protector to Atreus, a son determined to earn his respect, he is forced to deal with and control the rage that has long defined him while out in a very dangerous world with his son.

From the marble and columns of ornate Olympus to the gritty forests, mountains and caves of pre-Viking Norse lore, this is a distinctly new realm with its own pantheon of creatures, monsters and gods.

Chapter 12 - Escape From Helheim:

Kratos chases Baldur and the kidnapped Atreus into Helheim, fighting through frozen bridges, undead armies, and haunting illusions meant to break his resolve. When Kratos finally reaches them, Baldur’s rage triggers a violent confrontation that exposes Atreus’s dangerous misunderstanding of his godhood and his own invincibility. As they attempt to escape, the trio witnesses a crucial vision revealing Baldur’s curse of invulnerability and Freya’s role in it, reshaping their understanding of the conflict. Using the ship trapped in Helheim’s winds, Kratos and Atreus work together to free it from the icy chains, battling Hel-Walkers as the vessel sails through supernatural storms back toward Midgard. During the escape, Kratos finally tells Atreus the truth about his past — including that he killed his own father — a moment that grounds the boy and shifts their relationship back toward trust.

Chapter 13 - A Path to Jotunheim:

Back in Midgard, Kratos and Atreus regroup with Mimir and realize that reopening the path to Jötunheim now requires the hidden Jötunheim Tower, which has mysteriously vanished. They travel beneath the Lake of Nine to the Realm Travel Room, discovering Tyr’s secret mechanisms and a series of puzzles that reveal how the tower was hidden between realms. Manipulating the temple’s machinery, they locate the displaced tower trapped in the space between worlds and use realm travel to pull it back into Midgard. As they bring the tower home, they fend off Hel-Walkers spilling through unstable realm tears, showcasing Kratos and Atreus’s renewed teamwork. With the tower restored, the final stage to reach Jötunheim comes into view — but new obstacles begin to rise, hinting that their journey is about to collide with Ragnarok’s earliest tremors.
