Is it out of line to ask a woman how many “baby fathers” she has, or is that a fair question in 2026 dating culture for grown and educated folks?

On the one hand, people say transparency about family dynamics is basic due diligence before you commit your time, energy, and resources.

On the other hand, that question can feel judgmental, dehumanizing, and rooted in stereotypes about Black women and “broken homes,” especially if you haven’t built trust first.

Maybe the real issue isn’t the question itself, but how and why you ask it: is it about understanding her life, or about shaming her choices?

What do you think? Is it respectful boundary-setting or straight-up disrespect? 👀
